Hotels vs. Bed and Breakfast Accommodations

A lot of my travel involves bustling destinations like Las Vegas, New York, and Houston. These places rarely afford me the opportunity to enjoy the total relaxation of being away from the congestion of the city; and so an opportunity to escape the bright lights is a most welcome one.
Last month I was retained once more to help a growing business source new locations for their plasma centers. Unfortunately the nature of this business requires the centers to be located in low-income areas and thus not the most uplifting of accommodations are available while on the road.
So, scouring the Internet I determined that my choice was down to a B&B or a 3-star range hotel. Having done bed and breakfast business plan writing in the past I’ve had some great experiences learning first hand what makes them different from other motel, hotel, or inn arrangements.
When we’re talking 5 star stays at the Mandarin Oriental there’s really no question at all. But dollar for dollar you will rarely find a better stay than a bed and breakfast run by passionate owners who love what they do and love being great hosts.
So, I headed to a bed and breakfast directory I’m familiar with and tried to home in on three B&Bs to make reservations for in my three stops. Ironically enough, as I was thinking this would make a good blog post, I found they had beat me to the punch with their own version of why a bed and breakfast is better than a hotel; nonetheless I’ve obviously forged ahead!
I ended up staying at two North Carolina B&Bs and one in Louisiana.
The fact remains that when on-demand concierge services and day spa dreams aren’t an option you will likely find that bed & breakfasts are the way to go.
How have your experiences been with BnB’s?
